Google has unveiled a $1 billion investment plan for a new data center in the UK, aimed at addressing the “increasing demand” for its AI and cloud offerings.
Located in Waltham Cross, Hertfordshire, this 33-acre facility is set to enhance computational capabilities for businesses, fostering AI advancements and ensuring dependable digital services across Google Cloud, as well as for everyday users of Google’s Search, Maps, and YouTube.
Ruth Porat, Alphabet’s president and CFO, remarked that this data center is the latest in a series of investments in the UK’s digital sector. She highlighted that this initiative extends Google’s existing commitments, which include the Saint Giles and Kings Cross offices, a comprehensive research agreement with Cambridge, and the Grace Hopper subsea cable that links the UK with the US and Spain.
